Sulfurware Side Story #4: Beneath the Fold

Sama engages in a cryptic, tense dialogue with an unnamed entity in an undefined realm beyond human comprehension. The conversation centers on the third dimension—one level below their own—where Sama expresses his deep contempt for humanity, viewing them as primitive, misguided creatures lost in illusions. His counterpart, weary of Sama’s condescension and familiar rhetoric, reluctantly entertains Sama’s mysterious request, though the nature of that request remains unstated. The exchange reveals a long-standing dynamic of philosophical friction and reluctant cooperation. In the end, Sama smugly accepts the concession, confident in his manipulation and superiority.

Sulfurware Side Story #4: Beneath the Fold

“You still think they’re worth your attention?” Sama’s voice rippled across the space, measured but soaked in disdain. “The third dimension is a flatland dream, a smeared echo of thought pretending to be substance. They breathe mud and name it sky.”
The silence on the other end stretched—long enough to imply patience, but not respect.
“You’ve made your opinion clear, Sama. Many times.”
“And yet you persist,” Sama replied, pacing slowly, his shadow stretching in geometries that defied simple light. “You cling to the notion that there’s something to salvage down there. That these… humans can be nurtured, understood. They are vermin in a glass maze, endlessly mistaking reflections for gods.”
“They try. That’s more than I can say for you.”
A low hum, almost laughter, slipped from Sama’s lips. “Effort doesn’t impress me. The worm thrashes before it dies—shall I build a monument for its struggles?”
“I’m tired, Sama. Tired of this posture you wear like it’s armor. Tired of the theater. But fine.” The voice exhaled—a sound like shifting sand through cold air. “Have it your way. This once.”
Sama bowed mockingly, though no one was there to see. “Magnanimous as ever. I knew you’d come around.”
